Based on Rabindranath Tagore's poem "Prithibhi," Kalamandir Dance Company's PRITHIBI (EARTH) is a production aboutMother Nature and her giving, yet unforgiving character. We experience her contradictions: the joy she allows us to feel andthe malice she obliges us to experience. Her beauty is her wrath, and her abundance necessitates famine. The true value inour existence lies in the ability to accept her, nurture her, and pay our most humble homage to her.Kalamandir Dance Company is a contemporary ensemble that creates a new language by using the vocabulary of classicalIndian dance to explore new spaces of artistic expression. Instead of diminishing the foundation of our classical styles, we lookto investigate their communicative potential when merged with Western dance traditions. We are driven by creativity, humanemotions, and a desire to be released from the four walls of our daily existence. Our movement vocabulary aims to create areachable area for all people to participate and communicate. |
