ARUNA CHAKRAVARTI
Aruna Chakravarti has been Principal of Janki Devi Memorial College, University of Delhi, for ten years. She is also a well-known academic, writer and translator. Prominent among her ten published books are her translations of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhya'sSrikanta and Sunil Gangopadhyay's Those Days and First Light, published by Penguin Books India in 1993, 1997 and 2001 respectively. Her volume of translated stories from the masters of contemporary Bengali fiction entitled The Way Home appeared in 2006. Her first attempt at creative writing - a novel The Inheritors was published, also by Penguin India, to critical acclaim and was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers Prize 2004.
Secret Spaces, a volume of her own short stories, was published in April 2010. Her most recent work, a novel entitled Jorasanko is presently in the publication process and will be released this year by Harper Collins Ltd.

She is the recipient of several prestigious awards. Among them are the Vaitalik Award, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Sarat Puraskar.
